Sydney Novak is a 17-year-old who lives with her younger brother and her single mom. Sydney is mad that her family never talks about their father’s suicide, and constantly argues with her mom. Because of Sydney’s anger the school guidance counselor recommends that she start a diary to channel her anger, and Sydney reluctantly agrees. However, Sydney soon discovers she is developing powers. Now, Sydney has to figure out the complexities of her home life, high school, and her sexuality while dealing with her emerging superpowers.

Questions:

  • Sydney is upset that her friend has a new boyfriend and she feels replaced by him. Sydney never told Dina her feelings. What should Sydney have said to help Dina realize her feelings?
  • Sydney told Dina that she had sex with Stan. That was a lie and it did not actually happen. Why do you think she lied? Do you think that was the right thing to do?
  • As Sydney is discovery her powers she works with Stan to control them. However, Stan said some mean things that hurt Sydney’s feelings. Do you think what Stan did to get her to use her powers was a smart decision?
