Giant Inflatable IUD, Freeda Womb, Stops in Cedar Rapids

Americans for Contraception IUD Express Tour highlights the importance of the right to access birth control

Admin, 08.06.24 / Contraception, FPCI Updates, Public Affairs

On June 5, 2024, Americans for Contraception placed a 20-foot IUD at Union Station to call attention to the US Senate vote on the Right to Contraception Act happening later that day. Unfortunately, this simple bill that would have protected our right to birth control like the pill, IUDs, and Plan B, was defeated.

The IUD, however, was a hit! Social media and major news outlets covered the display, and so Freeda Womb started traveling across the country. On Monday, August 5, 2024, she made her way to Cedar Rapids’ Greene Square Park to promote access to birth control.

“We must recognize contraception access as a fundamental right,” Iowa Family Planning Council Executive Director Allison Smith said. “No matter where we live, our circumstances, or our economic status, every single one of us deserves to make the best healthcare choices for ourselves and have the freedom to determine our own life path.”
